When I stepped into the office, four unfamiliar faces lined up in a row and all turned toward me at once.

First-year residents who had only recently shed their intern badges.

I scratched the back of my neck and quickly scanned their faces.

'The one who looks completely blank, the one who just looks nervous, the second one who just looks nervous, and the one who looks way too nervous.'
