Zhong Mu gritted his teeth and flung open the stall door.
The service attendant at the entrance quickly looked up, staring fixedly at Zhong Mu. Had this person finally lost patience and decided to come out? Could she still squeeze in one last bit of work before time ran out?
Zhong Mu glanced at the service attendant by the door, his face pale, then steeled himself and rushed toward the restroom window to look down.
The outside wall of the guesthouse’s second floor was completely smooth, without so much as a pipe to hold on to. There was nowhere to get a foothold. The second floor wasn’t all that high, but it wasn’t low, either—jumping down might leave him with a bad leg.
Zhong Mu sized up the height, calculating and hesitating as he eased one leg out the window. Just as he was about to take the plunge, the roars that had been coming from the square suddenly stopped.
Zhong Mu froze, then turned to look at the restroom entrance. The service attendant had vanished.

Zhong Mu quickly poked his head out to look. The sky over the town was already paling, and the first light of sunrise was gradually appearing.
