Working with Wood... Fine Adjustments Are Difficult.

A huge tree befitting this forest stands before me.

That huge tree, however, is standing there in an odd state.

I used magic to process it into boards to lay across the floor.

Where did I go wrong?

The tree before me has had its bark stripped, and I think it has probably been dried, too.

My hazy recollection of how wood is processed.

Strip the bark, dry it, and cut it to the required thickness.

Drying is supposed to be the important part.

I pictured it as-is... and this is how it turned out.

The bark has been stripped, and although I can't tell just by looking, the wood has been dried and cut to a thickness of 25 cm.

You could call it a success—if it weren't still standing.

A failure.

I skipped the first step: cutting down the huge tree.

I'd completely forgotten.

How am I supposed to lay the huge tree in front of me on its side?

Since it has already become several dozen boards, one mistake could make them all fall apart.

I need to cut it down first, though.

Will ordinary wind be enough to do that?

After that, I pictured it lying on its side and used teleportation.

I decided to give it a shot.

I had Koa move to a safe place, then used wind magic.

At the same time, I pictured where I wanted it to move and used "Teleport."

Magic is quite flexible; if I can get the image right, it seems I can do anything.

Well, it's the image that's difficult to get right.

The result was that the tree was too long to lie down completely.

It caught on the trees in the forest... and fell apart.

I should cut it to length while it's still a huge tree! Definitely.

I completely forgot.

Wooden boards piled up in the room on the fourth floor.

The equivalent of five huge trees.

Why am I so incredibly tired?

I feel like Koa gave me an exasperated look time and again...

I hope I'm just imagining it.

But somehow, I managed to finish moving them to the fourth floor.

All that's left is to arrange them.

This part is easy: I just have to lay them directly on the floor.

...It should have been easy, anyway.

But they won't line up without gaps.

Adjusting them in 1 mm increments with teleportation is extremely difficult.

Or rather, I'm just bad at it.

I don't think I'm that careless, though...

Since I didn't make them much shorter,

I'd rather not move them after laying them down. There's a pile of boards at the edge of my vision.

That's impossible.

"It'd be easiest if I could adjust them while looking at them, huh?"

I pondered this while looking at the wood.

What would be best for moving something this large?

If I were in Japan, I'd use a crane.

I remembered seeing containers being moved.

Could I make use of that?

I lift them as if operating a claw machine.

"Rise."

For horizontal movement, I try pushing them with my hand.

Ooh, this is fun.

I can't believe I can actually do this...

"Lower."

I lower the boards, fine-tuning their positions by hand to fill the gaps.

It worked.

Looking at the pile of boards and the size of the room, I felt a little dizzy.
