The moment we approached the portal, the cluster of lights began to move menacingly.

It was as if it were eloquently declaring, ‘Come any closer and you’re in trouble!’ And it really would be a problem. If you hit it head-on, you’d just bounce right off.

So I pulled out the black card the headmaster had prepared for me.

When we got close enough to the portal, I tossed it. The cluster of lights writhed, and space split open.

At the same time, I set the timer. Exactly two minutes.

‘...This is as far as Headmaster Atalante’s pass will get us.’

The Reverse World was originally endgame content available only to players who had earned the authority of ‘Eternity.’

The black card I was holding was essentially an ID card issued to those immortals. You needed one to avoid being caught by ‘quarantine’ when crossing over to another world.

They were being managed by some surprisingly strict folks...
