What emerged from the darkness was unmistakably person-shaped. No, there was little doubt it was human.
I wondered how it had been sealed inside a wooden box, but more troubling was the fact that it had emerged after receiving Bishop Levios’s prayer.
Surely he hadn’t stuffed injured or gravely ill people into boxes like that.

Not only the box Bishop Levios had just prayed over, but the boxes left around it began opening one after another, with people rising from inside.
Damn, wasn’t that supposed to be a spell targeting one person? No, I know next to nothing about magic, but when someone offers a prayer and recites an incantation like that, you’d normally assume it was single-target.
There were six of them.
Six bodies... no, six people? Either way, the number of unidentified potential enemies had just increased by six. The circumstances were far too strange to dismiss them as ordinary people. It was safer to assume they each had some kind of unusual ability...
