The Price

How strange. I thought unique abilities could only be obtained by the chosen few.

According to a post on the Hunter Gallery, people could even become Hunters while working at a convenience store, when a system message suddenly popped up saying, ‘You have awakened.’

"Everyone has innate potential. But awakening is ultimately a matter of chance, so if you're unlucky, you can have tremendous talent and still live an ordinary life."

An ordinary person with the potential to become S-rank could become a considerable force if they ate the Seed. Of course, at first I wondered whether the Association even knew such people existed…….

"We keep track of every citizen's biometric data, place of residence, and family register. Ever since the Tower appeared, we've been properly monitoring people who are innately gifted in their understanding of and sensitivity to mana."

"Do they know about that?"

"No, it's classified."

"……."

Now that I thought about it, I remembered seeing a user post on the Gallery saying they thought the government was eavesdropping on them. The comments had mocked them for being mentally ill until a moderator deleted the post.

In any case, the Seed of Awakening wasn't the only item the Association had its eye on...
