Collapse of Mental Fortitude

On September 27, the Imperial Army's 1st Tank Division arrived at Narvia to find only the traces of abandoned defensive positions.

It was dispiriting for men who had been preparing for a desperate battle, but... it was not necessarily bad news.

The Northern Army's withdrawal had opened a road straight to the capital. If they simply advanced toward the capital, they could quickly swallow up the North as well.

Thus, the officers in the 1st Tank Division's command faced quite a dilemma.

Should they pursue Siegfried, or enter the capital immediately?

After an hour of discussion, they chose pursuit.

"Another corps following behind can handle entering the capital. But we are the only corps that can pursue Siegfried and his remnants!"

"If he holes up in a northern fortress, things will become troublesome. Army Group A Command, please predict the routes that bastard Siegfried might take and deploy follow-up mobile forces!"

And without the slightest hesitation, the 1st Tank Division began following Siegfried's trail.

The 3rd and 4th Tank Divisions, dispatched afterward, moved to cut off the Northern Army's retreat...
