Third day after hearing Adrian's warning.

Kael realized one thing.

Someone had been following him.

He first noticed it just after leaving home. As he made his way through a maze of tangled alleys, he sensed someone trailing him from a fixed distance.

At first, he thought nothing of it.

In Magitera, more and more people had started recognizing him, and being watched from afar was hardly unusual anymore. But when the same sort of presence kept turning up for days, despite the places and people changing, that was another matter.

A man drinking something across the street, a woman looking at her terminal a little farther away.

Even someone sitting on a terrace higher up in a building.

They acted as though they had nothing to do with one another, yet kept a fixed distance and monitored Kael's movements.
