The circumstances that lead someone to become a Hunter can be broadly divided into two.

The first is acquired awakening.

It occurs when an ordinary human, born and raised normally, suddenly awakens to superhuman power one day.

Ever since the external entity known as a dungeon appeared on Earth, humanity's bodies have produced Awakened people at regular intervals, much as they create antibodies in response to a virus.

Most Hunters currently active belonged to this category.

The second is innate awakening.

It occurs when someone is born to a mother who was a Hunter from the outset and emerges from the womb carrying a powerful Hunter factor.

Simply put, it was the elite course.

Hunters were beings with bodies and mana that transcended human limits, after all.

Pregnancy itself was therefore extremely difficult, and both ordinary conception and artificial insemination had overwhelmingly high failure rates...
