Behind the pirate gang's secret base, the 'Talent Development Center,' there was an open lot with very little sign of life. A scarecrow made of stacked tires stood there, looking rather eerie.

“Now, first, touch it. Feel the weight of what you’ll be handling from now on.”

At Ms. Hong Miri's instruction, I etched the feel of the black, hard metal into my hand. It was heavier and colder than I'd expected. It felt like the touch of something that took human lives.

When I was adjusting my stance in various ways, Ms. Hong Miri came up beside me and corrected my posture by touching my hands and shoulders.

“You have to hold this thing tightly like this.”

A peach scent drifted from Ms. Hong Miri. It felt like an adult's fragrance, yet there was still a hint of girlishness left in it.

“Hold it tight in your hand and then shake it back and forth. That’ll make it fire.”

I could tell Ms. Hong Miri was teasing me.
