#106. Ancient Temple (2)

There weren’t many people in the investigation team heading to the ancient temple. The number of people each sect could send had been decided in advance by agreement.

Even so, Mount Hua and Zhongnan had asked their affiliated sects, the Baekhwa Sect and Daeho Sect, for manpower. It was essentially a power play.

The Baekhwa Sect knew that to some extent, which was why they’d spent more than necessary to send Cheon Yeo-hwa and me with the investigation team.

Dozens of silver coins and a demonic sword. I’d thought it wasn’t worth the cost, but now that I thought about it, the deal seemed about right.

‘Even if they were taking a loss in the short term, for a sect like the Baekhwa Sect, one of the strongest in Xi’an, it probably wasn’t a major one.’

Moreover, in the long run, they’d earned favor with their backer, the Mount Hua Sect, so it was fair to call it a gain.

Anyway, as I said earlier, the investigation team wasn’t very large. Fifty people at most.

No martial artists from the affiliated sects of the other sects had joined the investigation team. Only Mount Hua had sent me, Cheon Yeo-hwa, and the investigation leader.

‘Originally, the three of us were supposed to return with the other members of the investigation team, but apparently the Mount Hua elder changed his mind after yesterday’s spar with the Sword Dragon.’

I’d unintentionally benefited from that. If I’d been told to return to the Baekhwa Sect without knowing why, it would’ve been a pain in more ways than one...
