Astrology is a kind of ritual that predicts human fate and the future by observing celestial phenomena.

Through the movements of the sun, moon, planets, constellations, comets, meteors, and other celestial bodies, it glimpses fragments of the future or predicts the fortunes and misfortunes of others.

Put simply, it is a form of prophecy.

For that reason, astrologers had long been called prophets and praised, but there had also certainly been humiliating periods when they had to endure all kinds of scorn and insults.

Because a prophecy merely glimpsed one of countless possible futures, unexpected variables could always cause it to go awry.

For example, suppose someone prophesied that a massive storm would strike tomorrow and claim countless victims, while someone else prophesied that no such storm would come. Which person's prophecy would actually come true?

A prophecy merely glimpsed a possible future; it had no power to determine the future.
