As I said before, revenge is settling accounts.

In other words, it's the act of putting a period at the end.

Even if no special lesson or benefit came from the process, it didn't particularly matter.

Revenge was far from a productive activity to begin with.

As the saying went, a gentleman's revenge was never too late, even if it took ten years—or even longer; revenge was ultimately a matter between the parties involved.

It wasn't something for outsiders to comment on.

I didn't even properly know what sort of painful past Michael had.

I vaguely remembered Luciana telling me that after the corporate executive he had served died, he had been pushed out of the company's internal politics and was now being threatened with death….

I still didn't know the details.
