The Last Dance Before Midnight
A masked dragon asks the lanternwright for one slow dance
Late at night, beneath a brightly shining moon, Ferda walked down the candlelit corridor.
‘What a busy day.’
The duties had been neglected for more than several decades, so dealing with the backlog was no easy task.
‘Still, having Mori makes things proceed smoothly.’
The speed at which the work was being handled had already far surpassed that of any human.
Thanks to her, it seemed he could finish within a year if he maintained this pace.
‘My role is to assist His Highness so that he need not trouble himself with these matters.’
Remembering that, Ferda did his best to fulfill his role.
Before going to his bedroom, Ferda headed to the study.
If Ferda’s expectations were correct, Mori would be waiting there.
‘She should be waiting by now, so I should tell her to go back.’
She was a child who could not even breathe without permission.
Ferda had not forgotten that, and was on his way to order her to return to her room.
When he entered the study, he came face-to-face with someone he had never expected to see there.
“Hello! Lord Ferda!”
The gloomy witch, Echidna, greeted him with an awkward smile.
“Call me Regent.”
“Oh! I will. You have to call me Echidna, too, okay?”
“I will.”
“Ehehehe…….”
Echidna wore an awkward, gloomy smile.
Thinking that, Ferda passed by Echidna and walked toward Mori.
Just as Ferda had expected, Mori was quietly waiting there.
“?”
Mori was quite different from when Ferda had seen her that morning.
