The Arken Empire was undergoing a great upheaval in the wake of losing its emperor.

As he had said he would, Valdemar was becoming a tyrant.

The first thing Valdemar seized control of was the military.

He consolidated under his control the military authority that had been scattered among those carving up the Empire.

They had expected resistance, since even the emperor could not have done such a thing, but every commander followed Valdemar’s orders.

Though he had killed the emperor, those who knew of Valdemar’s achievements followed him,

and those who dreamed of advancing by quietly riding his coattails followed him as well,

while those swept along by the tide had no choice but to follow him.

And since everyone who refused to cooperate disappeared, they had no choice but to follow.
