Just like the phrase that circulated as a meme on the peninsula where I lived before I transmigrated, the British Empire was often treated as the so-called hidden mastermind behind Earth's history.
In other words.
When it came to handling that vast world history, the British Empire──England had exerted an enormous influence, much like the phrase “the empire on which the sun never sets.”
As a history student who had to maintain an objective perspective and read even the context behind historical events, I found that somewhat unfortunate.
I, too, had sympathized quite a bit with that prejudiced view.
Their accomplishments spanned a wide range of fields.
Not merely the infamous acts commonly mentioned, like selling opium until it was banned and then slapping the Chinese around, or picking a fight with a colony over dunking tea in water, only to get grabbed by the collar and punched in the gut.
If you traced the origins of all sorts of vicious things—grenades, white phosphorus, Claymore mines, Maxim machine guns, Dreadnought-class warships, aircraft carriers, and so on—they were all British-made, weren't they?
