"U-um..."
"..........."
Silence.
I was being subjected to a positively icy stare from one of the story's most popular characters.
"Um..."
"Well, never mind. I'll get straight to the point."
Carla-san finally opened her mouth.
Apparently, she didn't particularly want to talk to me.
I see.
Fair enough. I’d only just heard about it, but the impression I’d made on her side was absolute garbage.
Kuzutos... This is why you're going to get what's coming to you someday.
"Your magic affinity is—"
Carla-san's eyes met mine.
"【Space】—an extraordinarily rare type of Beyond-Domain Magic."
".............."
"Hey, what's wrong? Aren't you happy?"
The clumsy beauty looked at me in puzzlement.
"Beyond-Domain Magic, is it...?" I replied pleasantly enough, but inside, I was crying like crazy.
Because the magic that had made everyone hate Kuzutos was none other than 【Space】 magic.
Magic in this world comes in different affinities.
For example, the common ones would be 【Fire】 and 【Water】.
Anyone with mana can learn these common types of magic—though, of course, to varying degrees.
However, there are also certain magical affinities that only specific people can use.
Beyond-Domain Magic.
A special kind of magic that only those who have surpassed the limits of ordinary people can use.
Incidentally, Carla-san also possessed Beyond-Domain Magic.
Yeah.
So really, I should be happy.
If he were young Kuzutos, he'd probably say, "Guhuhuhu, I'm a genius!"
Naturally, with an "Aah" thrown in.
But I couldn't be happy at all.
And even among Beyond-Domain Magic, 【Space】 was especially special.
Because...
Because...
Because...
This 【Space】 magic was—
ONLY THE PROTAGONIST AND THE FINAL BOSS CAN USE IT.
"........"
That's right.
This only comes to light in the latter half of the story, but the final boss of Last Arcanum uses a mysterious type of magic.
Sieg-kun and his companions are completely powerless against it—until Sieg-kun awakens when his friends are in danger. It's an exciting event.
The heroines and his other companions are defeated one after another by the final boss's incomprehensible magic.
At that moment, the protagonist, who had been thought to have no unusual affinity, suddenly awakens his magic.
Then, only the protagonist's magic could interfere with the final boss's magic.
That's right.
At this point, the final boss realizes—
That the two of them can use magic of the same affinity.
Apparently, affinities can overlap in this world, too. But for ultra-rare Beyond-Domain Magic, that was basically impossible.
It was one of my favorite awakening scenes.
Awakening scenes and berserk scenes are so exciting—they really fire up your imagination.
And so, 【Space】-affinity Beyond-Domain Magic was officially established as a type of magic usable only by the protagonist and the final boss.
And they lived happily ever after.
...Or so you'd think, but later, the official account made a shocking announcement.
—There is one more character who possesses 【Space】-type Beyond-Domain Magic.
After this announcement, the number of fans eagerly speculating skyrocketed.
Who on earth was the last one?
Was it one of the heroines?
Or a new character?
Maybe a cute new secret character???
The players' questions were only natural.
Every player was eagerly anticipating the reveal of the last one.
And then.
What awaited those players was—
An announcement during an official livestream: "Actually, it was Kuzu... no, Ultos. He was originally intended to be a user of Space magic, too~"
Naturally, the fans were furious.
Huh?
Isn't it great that 【Space】 magic is exclusive to the protagonist and the final boss?
Isn't that what makes it feel so special????
No, why the hell did it have to be Kuzutos?
He's just a nasty mid-boss, isn't he?
Twitter was engulfed in flames, and abusive comments flew through the comment section.
"Sigh..."
Remembering that firestorm, I couldn't help but sigh.
I wanted it to be someone else.
A magic ability shared only by me, the final boss, and the protagonist was the worst. I was moving away from the background-character role at an absurd speed.
Worse, in this case, it was what Kuzutos did with his magic that was the problem.
That's right.
No matter how much of a scumbag he was, things might've been okay if he'd used his magic in a cool way like the protagonist and the final boss.
But...
This was Kuzutos, who was known for having a talent for all the wrong things.
This was how Kuzutos used Space magic:
He used it to peep.
He saw through female students' clothes.
――That was it.
...
........
........................
Come on, right? Give me a laugh.
This was completely ridiculous, wasn't it????
The final boss used it to pull weapons out of thin air, and the protagonist used it to create barriers in space to protect his companions—both incredibly cool uses. But this scumbag used it exclusively to mess with female students.
T-too lame... I can't take this anymore...
In despair, I couldn't help but mutter:
"I want to disappear..."
"Huh?"
