Lance ate quickly, and he was usually so carefree that although he sensed something strange in the atmosphere between Mu Chen and Wright, he didn't press them when he couldn't get anything out of them.
After finishing, he left first.
The moment Lance was gone, the dining room fell silent, leaving only the clink of knives and forks.
They were eating at an antique table made of ebony. Its surface gleamed with a rich luster, and it wasn't very wide. Mu Chen sat opposite Wright, with only two or three plates between them.
Wright was cutting his meat when he suddenly felt something gently brush against his boot.
He looked up in surprise. The instant he met those blue eyes, he realized that what he'd just touched must have been Mu Chen's foot.
Those slightly upturned blue eyes watched him quietly. It was nothing more than an ordinary look, yet Wright couldn't help recalling the enclosed nest, the damp feel of the merman's lips, and the distinctive scent of the sea on him...
His pupils trembled, and he stiffly turned his gaze away.
Mu Chen took in every one of those little movements and pressed his lips together.
The man before him wore a crisp, perfectly ironed white shirt. His well-defined physique filled it out beautifully. Wright was dressed as neatly as ever, seeming solemn to his very bones. Only the adhesive bandage on his neck disrupted that balance...
