Deep in the night, silence reigned throughout the vast imperial palace.

At an hour when everyone should have been asleep, Kyle’s chambers were still brightly lit.

A man sat on the sofa with a malicious smile playing at the corners of his mouth. He lifted his eyes to the attendant before him. “How did it go?”

Doli lowered his eyes. “I did as Your Highness instructed.”

Kyle: “You watched him drink it?”

Doli: “Yes.”

Kyle raised an eyebrow. “And then?”

“Then I waited outside for a while...” Doli paused. “I heard things being smashed.”

Kyle sat up from the sofa cushions. “Did you let the maid in?”
