On the projection screen, Wright’s speech continued. Behind him stood Army Marshal John Nutt and Deputy Commander Levi, along with several generals who had distinguished themselves in the battles against the Doyle Zerg.
These men had all fought alongside Wright. Now they stood behind him, listening to his speech in person.
Although Mu Chen couldn’t see Xavier or Jeffrey in the footage, he knew they were probably there, perhaps standing beneath the viewing platform. They were aboard warships, heading to the front lines with the other soldiers.
If there hadn’t been a problem with his assignment, he should be standing there now, able to see Wright’s face just by looking up and meet his gaze with a blink—instead of being separated from him by a cold screen, as if none of this had anything to do with him.
Frowning, Mu Chen read through the email twice more. He found the superior officer’s contact address at the bottom and immediately sent a message with the subject line [Request for Reconsideration].
In the body of the email, he briefly outlined his performance at the First Military Academy and the top three assignments he had originally chosen. His tone was urgent throughout, and he asked for a reply as soon as possible.
After sending the email, Mu Chen instinctively opened his chat with Wright. Their last exchange had been a few hours earlier:
He had asked Wright: “Big Brother, has the fleet set sail?”
Wright: “It has.”
Now Mu Chen’s fingertip rested on the terminal screen. He had a host of questions weighing on his mind, but he couldn’t bring himself to ask a single one...
