Chapter 16

Chapter 16 - Unexpected Talent

Spirits are quite remarkable beings.

I was inevitably ignorant about spirits at first.

That was because in the original story, there was very little information about spirits. The protagonist was purely a traditional swordsman who used a sword, and none of the party members dealt with spirits.

Apart from briefly obtaining and using the Spirit Sword, there was no connection to spirits, and even when the protagonist used it, there was no mention of a spirit appearing. So I didn't think much of it, but it turned out spirits were much more amazing than I thought.

But why did such a being reveal itself to me?

And here was where the question arose. According to Daphne, spirits didn’t reveal themselves unless it was to equally mysterious beings because they were mysterious. In that sense, why did it show itself to me, who wasn't particularly special?

"I heard it's hard to even see a spirit once."

[That's right. They usually don't reveal themselves.]

"Then why did you reveal yourself to me?"

I had to ask the Spirit Sword about this question, and after thinking for a moment, it soon gave the reason.

[Because you're a mysterious being.]

The reason was simple. The Spirit Sword said it was because I was a mysterious being.

"Me?"

Of course, I didn't understand well. Again, Davian was absolutely not a special person. He can be called a very ordinary person, so what part of me could be special?

As I asked with an expression that still didn't understand, the answer seemed to be elsewhere.

[Yes. I'm not exactly sure either, but you're too mysterious.]

"Is it because I cleared the dungeon in one go?"

[No, it's different from that.]

"What do you mean?"

[It's like you came from another world? Like you didn't originally exist in this world? Like you're an irregular in this world? That kind of feeling. That's why it's so fascinating.]

I felt a bit startled by the Spirit Sword's words. Came from another world... The Spirit Sword shouldn't know that I was a reincarnator, but it was hitting the nail on the head.

I really wasn’t a person from this world.

Was that it?

Certainly, if I was a reincarnator, it made sense. Why it said I was mysterious. What could be more fascinating than being reincarnated from another world to this one?

Come to think of it, I might be the most fascinating being in this world.

"I see."

I understood immediately, and then I recalled what the Spirit Sword had told me before.

"Is this perhaps my talent?"

The statement that I have an incredibly outstanding talent. Wondering if it might be related to this, I asked it. And sure enough, the Spirit Sword gave an affirmative answer.

[That's right. Whether you like it or not, you'll receive a lot of attention from spirits. Spirits tend to be interested in things more mysterious than themselves.]

"Hmm."

So I had a constitution that attracted a lot of attention from spirits? Because I was a reincarnator? From what Daphne said and what the Spirit Sword was saying, this constitution seemed to be quite an excellent talent.

Even the protagonist, the Spirit Sword never spoke to or revealed itself until the end. But it spoke to me within 10 seconds of meeting, right? Moreover, it even helped me personally by training and giving me mana, which it never did in the original story.

[This is something you can be proud of. Spirits don't reveal themselves unless it's something exceptionally special. Especially high-ranking spirits like me, needless to say.]

This seemed to be quite an exceptional case.

Basically, it was difficult to come into contact with spirits, and considering that they were indifferent to humans, the fact that a spirit actively revealed themselves to me implied a lot of possibilities.

[Depending on how you do it, you might be able to use the powers of spirits? You might become incredibly strong beyond your imagination.]

Becoming incredibly strong... Just hearing it, it might be a much more amazing talent than I thought. I thought I had no talent at all, but to think I had talent in this way.

I felt a bit excited, but I still couldn't grasp how to actually use this ability.

But there was no one who dealt with spirits in the original story?

Again, there was no information about spirits in the original story. I never expected to delve this deep into spirits in the first place. So this situation wasn't entirely satisfying.

What should I do from now on?

I had to rely somewhat on the Spirit Sword regarding this part, but...

"Then what should I do? What kind of training should I do?"

[I don't know either.]

"You don't know? Why?"

[Well... I'm the spirit of a sword, not the spirit of spirits. I can teach you about swords, but I can't teach you about spirits. I'm not particularly interested either.]

The Spirit Sword didn't seem to know much either.

"Hmm..."

What should I really do?

It was like getting incredibly delicious ingredients but not knowing how to cook them. I was feeling a bit frustrated, but...

[It's okay though.]

"What?"

[It'll work out somehow, right? And I feel like something will come soon.]

"What's coming?"

[Another spirit.]

The Spirit Sword made another meaningful statement.

***

A week had passed since the Spirit Sword said another spirit would come.

It's peaceful.

But nothing particularly happened. The people from the magic tower, including Kailyn, were still staying at the church and continuing to activate the magic circle. Only peaceful days were repeating.

Is it really coming?

Oh well, even if it’s not today, let's just train hard.

Although I felt a bit disappointed, I was still training hard today. At this point, physical training might not be that meaningful, but I had already gotten into the habit, and what else can I do?

Actually, I want to take care of the child, too...

To be honest, I was full of desire to play with Eleana. It wasn’t like I enjoy training. Taking care of Eleana was the most comfortable thing in the world.

But I couldn't really do that.

Didn't Levia tell me not to take care of the child if possible?

That was because I was cautioned by Levia. Unfortunately, it seemed I didn't have talent in housework. The last time I tried to do housework, I almost ruined everything, and Levia was horrified.

I wasn’t making excuses, but I thought it couldn't be helped. Both in my previous life and this life, I was far from housework. Originally, no one could be good at something they had never done before.

So Levia said she would take care of the child as much as possible, and I thought that was right. With such an excellent person like Levia around, there was no reason for me to take care of the child, right?

From Eleana's perspective, it would be much more comfortable to be cared for by Levia than someone like me. It was all for Eleana's sake that I wasn't taking care of her.

Let's train hard.

Also, I have responsibilities other than taking care of the child, right? The Spirit Sword was supposed to be the protagonist's weapon originally. I, who took such a weapon...

I didn't do such a thing with half-hearted determination.

If I made a mistake, the world might really be destroyed, you know? No matter how well I raise Eleana, what was the use if the world was destroyed? I didn't intend to make that happen.

That was the responsibility of taking the protagonist's weapon. I planned to help at least until she obtained the next weapon, the Holy Sword. Anyway, for that reason, I couldn't give up training.

I had to work hard today, too. I was about to swing my sword to train again. But something unexpected happened.

"Brother...! Something terrible has happened!!!"

Suddenly, Levia came running from afar. It was the first time I saw her running so hurriedly. It seems like something serious has happened.

What could have happened to make her look like that?

"What's the matter, Sister Levia?"

I slowly asked Levia, who had barely reached me, what had happened. After catching her breath, Levia conveyed the current situation.

"Brother... It's... Right now at the church... A spirit has appeared and is!!! Attacking the people from the magic tower!!!"

She said that Kailyn, Daphne, and the other people from the magic tower were in danger.
