Chapter 20
Chapter 20 - Divorce Ceremony (2)
Kailyn told me to prepare for the divorce ceremony.
Come to think of it, a divorce ceremony was still left between Kailyn and me.
It's not over just by getting divorced.
Well, from a modern perspective, one might think there was no need for a divorce ceremony when parting ways. But wasn't this clearly a fantasy world based on the medieval era? Divorce couldn't be simple at all.
Especially for nobles, it was even more so.
We have to hold a divorce ceremony.
If we held a wedding ceremony, of course we had to hold a divorce ceremony. Just as we announced our marriage, we needed to announce our divorce. While commoners might not, nobles usually held a divorce ceremony when divorcing.
Not our family though.
Of course, although we have the title of nobles, our family that didn’t seem very noble-like probably wouldn't care about such things. I didn’t particularly mind not doing it, but Kailyn's family was quite sensitive about these things.
They're not the type of family to skip this.
Although they were on the verge of ruin, they'd try not to lose face as nobles. When I saw that, I thought it was very noble-like, but it was sad that such behavior hastened their downfall.
Anyway, there was no reason not to have a divorce ceremony. If I were spending my own money, it might be different, but if Kailyn's side was preparing it, why not do it? I agreed to Kailyn's words.
"Okay. One month from now, right? I understand."
"Then I'll see you then."
Kailyn left after hearing that answer. One month later... In one month, my marriage with Kailyn would finally end.

After mentioning the divorce ceremony and Kailyn's departure, things seemed to have wrapped up well for now. Daphne came and formally apologized to Levia.
"I'm sorry... We'll try to compensate for causing this trouble somehow."
While summoning the spirit was good, it was undeniable that they had occupied the church and put it in a dangerous situation. That was clearly the fault of the magic tower's side.
Of course, I resolved it well enough, but shouldn't they take responsibility for what happened? In the end, they agreed to give various goods and money to the church in the name of the magic tower.
"If you give it, I'll gratefully accept it...!"
Levia didn't particularly try to make herself look good. Her money-loving nature hadn't gone anywhere, and she was secretly pleased that they were offering compensation. And so, the negotiations were concluded well.
Now it was time for the magic tower people to leave the village.
"Are you leaving now?"
"Yes, Mr. Davian. Since Kailyn says she's not interested in intermediate spirits..."
At the point when the intermediate spirit revealed itself, Daphne argued to stay here a bit longer to research the intermediate spirit or see other spirits. But Kailyn didn't accept that request.
Kailyn said there was no more reason to stay here. The magic tower people had to follow her words. She was the top student of the magic tower and the leader among the magic tower people currently in the village.
They worked on removing the magic circles they had set up. On the day that work finished, the magic tower people left the village.
"Thank you so much for talking with me all this time."
I exchanged farewells with Daphne. Although it was a short time, we might have grown somewhat fond of each other. No, honestly, I didn't particularly grow fond of her, but Daphne might have grown quite attached to me over these few days.
Originally, Daphne would have talked a lot with Kailyn, but Kailyn seemed to be in a very bad mood after that incident. So Daphne came to talk to me, and each time, I listened to her stories appropriately.
"No, it's nothing."
Was there anything to be thankful for? That was what I thought, but actually, I understood because Daphne herself had lived a very lonely life and had a personality that got lonely easily.
"No, I'm really grateful. Because I'm a commoner... No one at the magic tower associates with me. Even among commoners, I'm ostracized because I use magic. I'm so grateful that you didn't ignore me."
As she said, she didn't have any friends.
Magic could be used well only if one trained from a young age. In that respect, commoners were in an extremely difficult environment to become mages. Because of this, there were many nobles in the magic tower, and Daphne, being a commoner, was in a position of being ostracized there.
And even commoners didn't treat her as a friend, they just looked up to her for using magic. So she had always been lonely. Only Kailyn had talked to her.
That was why she followed Kailyn, considering her a friend.
She's really a pitiful child, isn't she?
Of course, Levia was also her friend, but Levia and Daphne were completely different in everything from interests to personality, right? So Daphne didn’t particularly prefer conversations with Levia.
So Daphne had lived very lonely, and that was why I listened to her without getting annoyed. Daphne really liked it.
Anyway, it was time for her to leave now. She seemed quite regretful.
"Ugh..."
But she couldn't not leave. Although she showed hesitation, she steeled her resolve.
"Um... Mr. Davian. We're friends, right?"
"Of course. We're friends, right?"
There was no reason not to call her a friend. Daphne was very happy at being called a friend.
"Hehe. Friends. See you again next time."
She waved her hand and left, promising to meet again. Of course, I didn't know if I'd be able to meet her again soon, as she'd be active as part of the hero's party.
***
After the magic tower people left, a brief peaceful daily life resumed. A peaceful daily life of training and taking care of the child resumed. But it might be a bit different with the presence of Beepbee, the spirit of darkness.
"Hmm... Is this how you do it?"
"Beep beep!!!"
Beepbee, the spirit of darkness that newly contracted with me. I trained with Beepbee every day. Training to use the power of Beepbee, the contracted spirit, smoothly.
"It's not going well, is it?"
But I thought spirit arts were really difficult. It would be nice if I could create a sphere of darkness as big as a house like Beepbee. The sphere I created was about the size of one person.
Even that was originally the size of a palm, and it had grown a lot after painstaking efforts. It seemed that using a spirit's power also required some training. Should I say that I couldn't draw out the spirit's power properly...?
Anyway, that was how it felt.
There's no information about spirit arts.
I wish I could become stronger more easily. If I had talent in swordsmanship or magic, I could have somehow used the knowledge I had from the original story. Spirit arts were disappointing in this aspect, weren't they?
"Instead of thinking like this, let's make an effort."
Of course, I didn't particularly have any complaints. No, I shouldn't have complaints. It was the only ability I had.
Although the training wasn't very systematic and was rather reckless, my skills were steadily improving. I was more satisfied than before. Time passed quickly like that again.
"Finally... Is it time?"
Before I knew it, about a month had passed. The day of the divorce ceremony with Kailyn was approaching. Of course, I didn't forget this day.
How could I forget such an important day for me? I should get it over with quickly. With that thought, I went down to the church and met Levia.
"Excuse me, Sister Levia."
"Yes, Brother."
Levia, who was diligently taking care of Eleana today as well. I called out to her. I told Levia, who immediately answered my call, what I needed.
"I'm thinking of going to my family home for a while, is that okay?"
"Ah. Is it because of the divorce ceremony?"
As soon as I told her what I needed, Levia immediately understood the reason. At this point, a month after Kailyn left, she already knew everything she needed to know.
"Yes. It's a bit of a troublesome affair."
"I see."
Levia nodded at my words.
"Have a good trip. I'll take good care of Eleana."
She told me with a smile. She was telling me not to worry and have a good trip.
"Will you do that? Thank you so much."
"I'm glad I can be of help to you, Brother."
It was really reassuring when she said that. If it was Levia, I could trust and leave it to her, unlike others.
"Shall I go?"
So, leaving the child with Levia, I was about to visit my family home after a long time. Then the divorce ceremony with Kailyn would take place and I’d sever my ties with her.
