Inside a transport ship in Rain World.
Mo Xi skillfully used the materials on hand to brew potions for everyone, and during the process, she heard the sound of rain.
At first, it was only a light drizzle. The patter of rain against the surrounding weeds and ruins was almost soothing, but before long, the drizzle turned into a downpour. Even inside the transport ship, Mo Xi could hear the rain pelting down.
She had thought rain this heavy was the limit, but it only grew worse—so bad that the sound alone was enough to frighten her.
When Mo Xi reached the transport ship’s main hall and saw the terrifying downpour outside the hatch, falling as if the sky were firing bullets, she finally understood why the Paradise had made them enter the world aboard a transport ship.
Mo Xi doubted even a Tier 2 main-tank contractor could withstand rain this severe.
The Paradise seemed to have anticipated this situation. A passage capable of withstanding the downpour extended between the two transport ships.
Once the passage had unfolded, a whole crowd of contractors poured onto the transport ship carrying Mo Xi and the other staff.
Looking at the silent, hat-wearing mage at their head, Mo Xi understood that he was the T0-tier powerhouse the Paradise had brought in to lead the contractors.
The Fire Mage looked at the transport ship’s dining tables, bar, entertainment facilities, and all the rest, and couldn’t help reflecting on the Paradise’s different treatment of contractors and staff.
The transport ship that had carried them, by contrast, was filled with nothing but chairs. There wasn’t a table in sight—not even a single fold-down tray.
In fact, the Paradise had done this on purpose. Contractors were generally tough and sturdy, and there were more than ten times as many of them as staff. Rather than cram things into their limited space, it made more sense to put everything on the staff’s ship, where it would be convenient for the staff to provide logistical support.
“I need to talk with you,” the Fire Mage said to the people in the hall.
A moment later, inside the passage between the transport ships.
The Fire Mage got straight to the point. “I’ll be blunt: this mission is difficult. You can see that our mission difficulty is LV9. A mission at this level has to be the highest difficulty for Tier 1.”
“So what do you need us to do?” the blacksmith, who hadn’t said much so far, asked.
“We need safe zones. Lots and lots of them.” As he spoke, the Fire Mage gestured toward the terrifying downpour outside the window. “In weather this extreme, traveling without safe zones along the way is practically suicide.”
Silence. A long silence.
Having only just arrived in this world, none of them understood the situation well enough to come up with a solution right away.
Just then, the engineer, who had been leaning against the wall, spoke up. “I checked the transport ship’s supply storage earlier. There are plenty of materials we can use, but...”
When the engineer trailed off, the Fire Mage frowned and asked, “But what?”
The engineer looked around at everyone, then pointed at Mo Xi and the blacksmith beside her. “But I’ll need time, and I’ll need help from the apothecary and the blacksmith.”
At that, Mo Xi blinked in confusion. She had no idea what the engineer was planning.
Engineer: “With the materials we have, we can build a rain shield first. The rain in this world is terrifying, so the shield will also need foldable external supports and a waterproof coating.”
At that, Mo Xi immediately understood what the engineer meant. She nodded to show that she was willing, and the blacksmith beside her also nodded after a moment’s thought.
The Fire Mage, who had been waiting nearby, nodded in satisfaction. It seemed the mission’s logistics would be in good hands.
A little over ten minutes later, the rain stopped.
Mo Xi picked up a large bucket and headed outside to gather materials.
An apothecary didn’t just need to know how to brew potions. They also had to understand what different materials could be used for.
The materials needed for the waterproof coating the engineer had mentioned had to be cold-resistant and able to absorb impact. The potion lab had some cold-resistant materials, but nothing that could absorb impact.
So where could she find that kind of material?
The answer was simple: the seaside.
When they had landed, Mo Xi had taken a quick look at the surroundings. If she remembered correctly, the seaside was 200 meters south of the transport ship.
The only problem was that the sea might be a little dangerous.
According to Mo Xi’s memories, the sea in this world was home to a massive sea monster called a Leviathan. Given this world’s difficulty level, the Leviathan’s stats had to be absurdly overpowered.
“Surely I won’t be that unlucky,” Mo Xi muttered as she walked.
A moment later, at the seaside.
Looking at the shallow brown water, Mo Xi didn’t rush in. She watched for a while, and once she was sure there was no danger, she hurried to the water’s edge, grabbed a handful of aquatic plants, and immediately turned around.
Almost at once, she felt as if something terrifying had set its sights on her. Alarmed, Mo Xi quickened her pace even more.
Mo Xi didn’t dare stop until she reached the entrance to the transport ship, where she finally paused to catch her breath.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Before she could take more than a couple of breaths, a series of fireball explosions sounded nearby. Mo Xi looked toward the noise and saw the Fire Mage had two lizards surrounded.
“Explode!”
At the Fire Mage’s roar, the marks on the lizards’ bodies began flashing rapidly. The next instant, a brilliant light flared, and the lizards were reduced to ashes.
Mo Xi, watching from afar, blinked, then turned and headed straight for the potion lab.
“As expected of a Tier 1 T0 powerhouse. What damage!” Mo Xi marveled to herself as she walked.
Mo Xi figured that if an explosion like that hit her, she’d probably drop dead on the spot.
Thinking of that, Mo Xi shook her head. She was only a novice who had entered a world once. There was no way she could compare to a powerhouse like that.
“Still... I do know my way around Potioncraft.” Mo Xi looked at the aquatic plant in her hand, its surface covered in bubbles, and spoke to herself.
Potioncraft, as they say, is the art of playing dodgeball and Pac-Man as quickly and accurately as possible.
In theory, if someone were lucky enough, they could brew a perfect-quality potion by luck alone, though the odds were even lower than Mo Xi winning the Paradise’s grand lottery tomorrow.
As the potion factors were separated out from the aquatic plant, Mo Xi suddenly had a bold idea.
“Hiss... What would happen if I replaced the fire-resistance factor in a fireproof potion with this potion factor?” Mo Xi murmured to herself.
Once she had the idea, she acted on it. She took about one-fifth of the plant and began brewing according to her hunch.
This was a brand-new experiment, but Mo Xi had a strange confidence in it.
With practiced ease, she powdered the ingredients, blended them, connected the potion factors, purified the mixture, and finally bottled it.
Once the bottle was sealed, the potion was complete.
