Babbit was dead.

When the news reached the lab, Tang Xiao’s hand jerked, and the pipette he was using for an experiment fell to the floor.

He immediately bent down to clean up the spilled liquid, then straightened and asked in surprise, “Babbit’s dead?”

Rocky nodded gravely. “A cleaner found him last night. He died in the bathroom of his dorm.”

“Was it an accident?” Tang Xiao couldn’t help asking.

A scholar dying in their dorm for no apparent reason was big news, especially at such a sensitive time, so soon after the trouble at the press conference.

That alone was enough, but there was an even bigger problem: Babbit had come looking for trouble with them shortly before he died.

“No. Apparently, the case is complicated. The Inspectorate sealed off the area this morning. Even Dr. Xiao went there.” Rocky shrugged. “We had dealings with Babbit, so they’ll probably come ask us some questions as part of the investigation.”

“What a mess.” Tang Xiao sighed.

A trace of schadenfreude flickered across Rocky’s face. “Don’t worry. We’re not the ones having the worst luck.”...
