After sitting around comfortably and waiting, thinking no injured people would come for a while, an injured person arrived almost immediately. I suppose people who had been injured but hadn't received treatment until now were coming as well.
There were chairs set out in front of each of us, and the injured people sat in them one by one. An injured person sat down in front of me as well.
"I cut myself a little. Can you heal it?"
The knight's cheek had been slashed deeply. Was this considered a minor injury? It looked incredibly painful...
They were supposed to be training with wooden swords, so how had they gotten an injury like this? Was it because they used magic too?
"I can heal it."
I held my hand over the cut, envisioned the injury healing, and cast the spell.
"'Heal.' There. It's healed."
"Huh? It's already healed!?"
The knight looked surprised as he touched his cheek. Was it really that surprising? An injury this minor should be easy to heal, right?
"You're incredibly skilled! I can't even tell where the injury was by touch, and you healed it so quickly. Thank you."
"N-no, I'm just good at magic..."
"I see! You have a promising future ahead of you."
"Thank you..."
The knight returned to training with a light step.
Were people really this surprised when I healed an injury that minor? I discreetly looked around at everyone else.
The others were taking time even to heal minor cuts, and scars remained after they finished.
This is bad... Their skill level was this low? I don't even know how to take time healing an injury! And how do I leave a scar?
I don't want to stand out with my magic, but being exceptionally skilled by ordinary standards should be fine, right? Besides, I can't suppress my power any further.
As I fretted over that, the next injured person arrived. For now, I would suppress my power as much as possible.
"I've got a terrible bruise. Can you heal it?"
The next person had a dark reddish bruise on their arm. It looked incredibly painful...
"Yes. Could you hold out your arm so I can heal it?"
"Sure. Like this?"
"Yes. 'Heal.' There, it's healed."
It looked extremely painful, so I healed it immediately and looked up at the injured person to make sure they were all right. For some reason, they were staring blankly at me with their mouth hanging open.
Huh? Had I overdone it again?!
Internal bleeding was easy to heal, though...
"Um... Is something wrong?"
"W-w-w-why!? How did you heal it in an instant!?"
Was I healing things too quickly after all...? But I had no idea how to slow it down!
I had no choice but to stick to the story that Healing Magic was my specialty.
"I'm quite good at Healing Magic. I also have a large magic capacity."
"Really...? Is that enough to heal something this quickly and cleanly?"
"I suppose I've been blessed. Ah, the next injured person is here, so..."
"...I see. Thank you for healing me."
"You're welcome. Do your best in training."
Did I manage to fool them...? Let's just decide that I did.
"Next, please."
"Yes, please take care of me."
The next injured person seemed to be dragging a leg because it hurt so badly. A sprain? Could it be broken?
"Your leg?"
"A wooden sword struck my leg with all its force. Maybe it struck at a bad angle... I think the bone is broken. So..."
"It looks incredibly painful. I'll heal it right away."
"Huh...?"
It looked terribly painful. They were breaking out in a cold sweat, so I had to heal them quickly... Come to think of it, didn't people in this world get injured too often just because Healing Magic existed? Well, I could understand taking risks when injuries could be healed so quickly.
"'Heal.' There. It's healed."
"Huh? Wait, it doesn't hurt!? How did you heal it!?"
Um... Was it wrong to heal a broken bone?
"I was just about to tell you not to worry if you couldn't heal it, since I could go to one of the Knight Order's healers..."
What was that about?! You should have told me sooner!! Maybe healing a broken bone really was too much...
What should I do? Maybe I could pretend that I had used up almost all my magic to heal it. That should make it believable...!
I needed to act completely exhausted. I needed to act as if I were on the verge of losing consciousness. Come on, me—do your best!
"Haa... haa... I thought it might be impossible, but it looks like I somehow managed to heal it... Does it still hurt?"
"Yes, it's completely healed. You're an incredible healer for a student. Thank you for healing me."
The knight gave me a broad grin. What a good person...! I'm glad my deception seemed to work, too. I'm sorry for deceiving you.
"You're welcome. Do your best in training."
"Yeah! I'll give it my all."
With that, the knight returned to training. All right! I was in the clear for now.
After this, I would move to the back and rest while looking exhausted. That would be perfect. I stood up from my chair and moved back.
"Ossen-sensei, I've almost used up my magic, so I'm going to rest now."
"All right. However, you were supposed to have a large magic capacity. Did you heal a serious injury?"
"Yes. The third person had a broken leg, and healing it used up almost all my magic."
Come to think of it, magic capacity wasn't supposed to increase no matter how much magic one used in this world. Then why could veteran healers heal even serious injuries?
Hmm... Maybe repeatedly using magic made one more accustomed to it, reducing the amount of magic consumed? That might be it. Also, as one became more accustomed to it, one could form a clearer image of the healing.
I suppose it was something like magic proficiency.
Well, it hardly mattered to me. My magic capacity kept increasing, and thanks to my memories of Japan, my images were clearer than those of people in this world.
"A broken bone... You healed a broken bone!?"
Huh? Even Sensei was that surprised?
"Healing a broken bone of course requires magic capacity, but unlike something easy to visualize, like a cut, it's difficult to picture. Many people can't heal one even if they have enough magic capacity. You have both a large magic capacity and excellent control over magic."
Broken bones were considered that difficult!? For me, healing one had been no different from healing a cut... How was I supposed to know that?!
"I-I guess I'm just better at Healing Magic than most people."
"It seems so. The more you use it, the better you become, so don't rest on your talent. Make sure to train properly."
"Yes!"
It seemed I had managed to keep my skill within the bounds of ordinary ability, at least for now... Thank goodness.
I sat in the chair behind me and pretended to rest while observing everyone else's magic.
When I watched Martine, I saw that she was taking longer than she had during my lessons and leaving slight scars as she healed the injuries. Martine was incredibly good at holding back her power.
Stacy-sama was taking a considerable amount of time to heal minor cuts. She already seemed quite tired, so perhaps she was nearly out of magic.
The other boy was taking about as long as Stacy-sama to heal the injuries, but he still seemed to have some magic in reserve. He could probably handle one more person with a minor cut.
Come to think of it, nearly all the young, confident-looking male knights were going to Martine. The young knights who didn't seem very confident were going to Stacy-sama, while slightly older knights went to the boy.
The ones going to Martine were probably young nobles from high-ranking families. They seemed to be hoping to get close to her if they got the chance.
The ones going to Stacy-sama seemed to be young men whose families were lower-ranking, so they couldn't go to Martine.
The people going to the boy seemed to be either already married or simply uninterested in that sort of thing.
Come to think of it, many of the knights who came to me hadn't been particularly young, either.
It was interesting to watch things unfold like this... As I watched the treatments, everyone eventually moved to the back, and class came to an end.
"From now on, this class will be held every week. Healing Magic class is only once a week, but the more you use magic, the better you become, so practice actively outside of class as well. Now, let's return to the Royal Academy."
We said goodbye to the knights, boarded the carriage, and returned to the Royal Academy. Having to match the average level every time was far too exhausting. It was good practice for Healing Magic, but I wished I could heal dozens of people one after another and get used to using it.
Once I'm able to reveal that I can use every attribute, I'll ask Alexis-sama to let me practice Healing Magic at the Knight Order from time to time.
But for now, I had to endure it for a year. Come on, me—keep up the exhausted act.
