Magic Power Measurements for Two

The days passed peacefully without anything out of the ordinary for several days after Ronnie returned to the orphanage. I really enjoyed being back at my parents’ home after so long.

And today was the day of a big event! Marie and Luke were going to have their magic power measured. They’d both just turned eight, so apparently they were going together.

After the measurements, our family of four and Luke’s family of four, including Nicolas, were going to celebrate at the dining hall.

“Marie, if you’re ready, hurry up and come down.”

“Coming!”

Marie came downstairs from the second floor after Mom called her.

“Big Brother, look! My new clothes! Are they cute?”

Marie said that and twirled around in front of me. She seemed so happy that she’d gotten new clothes for today. She’d been like this ever since Mom and Dad bought them for her two days ago. I could understand why she was so pleased—they were beautifully dyed and didn’t have a single patch.

“Big Brother, am I cute?”

“Yeah. You’re suuuper cute! They look great on you, Marie.”...
