"Father, Mother, and Frederick, thank you for coming to pick me up."
"Grandfather, Grandmother, Uncle, thank you."
Lucien-sama is incredibly mature. It's hard to believe he's only nine. Is this what noble education produces?
I'm nine too, but on the inside, I'm already an adult.
"Lucien, if anything happened to you, we'd be in trouble. Coming to get you is only natural."
Richard-sama was probably trying to regain his dignity by saying that so coolly, but his face was far too relaxed for him to have any dignity at all.
So he's not doting on Lucien because he's a little child. He's doting on him because he's his grandson.
I've always thought this, but the Townsend ducal family has remarkably good family relationships for nobles. I had imagined noble families as having cold, cutthroat relationships.
I don't know many other nobles, so I can't say for sure, but this family seems unusual among nobles.
I was incredibly lucky to meet Frederick-sama first. And Marcel-san, too. If I'd met someone else, I might have been used for their convenience or even imprisoned.
...Thinking about it that way is scary! I'm really glad things worked out.
"I was really looking forward to attending the Royal School! I'm excited about the sword classes."
"Is that so? So you like swords, Lucien. Training your swordsmanship is a good thing. It will help you defend yourself, too, so keep it up."
"Yes!"
Lucien-sama said that with shining eyes. So he liked swords. He looked strong, as I'd expected. He was pretty sturdy for a nine-year-old, too.
Speaking of sword classes... I'm looking forward to them, too!
I have to keep the fact that I can use every attribute hidden, so I can't use body enhancement, but everything starts with learning the basics. I'll do my best. Having more ways to attack is better, and magic isn't very suited to close combat.
"Leon, you're enrolling in the same year as me, right?"
Lucien-sama suddenly addressed me.
"Um, yes. I look forward to working with you."
When I said that and bowed my head, Lucien-sama's eyes lit up.
"I've never had a friend my own age before. Leon, I look forward to being friends with you!"
Lucien-sama flashed me a broad grin. I hadn't expected him to be this friendly. He must have heard that I was a commoner. The people in the Townsend ducal family really are amazing. I'm grateful.
"I look forward to being friends with you, too."
I replied with a smile. Lucien-sama then glanced around before asking Christophe-sama in a quiet voice.
"Father, is it all right to talk about Leon's abilities here?"
"Hmm... Could everyone step outside for a moment?"
After thinking for a moment, Christophe-sama had all the servants step away. They all withdrew into the hallway.
"Lucien, you can talk about it here. Just make sure the servants don't overhear you."
"Understood."
After speaking with Christophe-sama, Lucien-sama turned toward me again.
"Leon, you can use magic of every attribute, can't you? Could you show me some magic? I have the fire attribute, and I want to get better at magic."
So Lucien-sama knew that I could use every attribute as well. I was a little surprised, so Richard-sama offered an explanation.
"I originally thought we should keep it from the children, but Stephan-sama and Martine-sama found out. Since you'll probably spend a lot of time together at the Royal School, I decided to tell Lucien as well."
Martine-sama did seem to know, but Stephan-sama did too? Still, it was easier knowing that some people were aware of it, so I didn't mind.
"I see. Lucien-sama, if you'd like, I can teach you magic and show you some spells."
"Really?! Thank you, Leon!"
Lucien-sama was such a good kid. I was glad we might become friends.
"Leon, if possible, could you use every attribute here now? I heard about it from Father in a letter, but I want to see it for myself."
Christophe-sama said that to me. It was understandable that they couldn't believe it based only on hearing about it.
"Yes. I don't mind using magic. Then I'll start with fire magic."
I used fire, water, wind, earth, and body enhancement magic in that order. Healing magic was last.
"The last is healing magic. I can use it to heal injuries, and I also have magic that can check whether someone is ill. Shall I check everyone's condition?"
Since then, I had practiced healing magic every day until I was almost out of mana. My magic for determining physical problems and their causes had become much more precise. I had been practicing with my family and Martine-sama the whole time.
I could now cover the whole body with less mana than before, and I could tell when headaches and stomachaches weren't caused by viruses or the like.
I could remove viruses, pathogens, and malignant cells, but I couldn't cure an ordinary headache. If stomach pain was caused by something someone had eaten, I could remove the cause, but I couldn't cure psychosomatic stomachaches. I suppose no magic can do everything.
"That's wonderful! You can do it for everyone here, right?"
"Yes. Healing an illness consumes mana, but an examination doesn't use very much."
"Then please do."
"Who should I start with?"
"Father, of course."
"Certainly."
I went over to Richard-sama and covered him with healing mana.
...Hmm? There seemed to be a small, tumor-like growth in his lower abdomen. Could it be malignant? It probably was, since I should only be able to detect malignant growths.
It was still quite small, so I'm glad I noticed it now. I should be able to cure it without using too much mana.
As I thought that, my silence seemed to make Richard-sama anxious, and he looked at me questioningly.
"Leon-kun, is something wrong?"
"Ah, sorry. There seems to be a small lesion in your lower abdomen. May I heal it now?"
Richard-sama looked extremely surprised when I said that.
"But I don't feel unwell..."
"I don't think it's advanced enough to affect your health yet. I can easily cure it now, so there's no need to worry."
I smiled to reassure Richard-sama, and his expression relaxed a little.
"I see. I'm glad I had you examine me. Please do."
"Yes. Then I'll go."
I gathered mana in his lower abdomen and channeled a little more than usual. The healing magic glowed slightly brighter, and the lesion vanished.
"That should do it."
"Thank you, Leon-kun. You've helped me time and time again. It seems I'll have to repay you many times over from now on."
Richard-sama smiled a little as he said that, so I smiled back.
"You and everyone in the ducal family have treated me very well. This is the least I can do. Now, Catherine-sama is next."
I examined Catherine-sama and Frederick-sama and found nothing wrong with either of them, so I turned to Christophe-sama. Christophe-sama and the others were staring blankly, as if stunned by something.
Huh? What's wrong?
"Um, what happened?"
"Ah, yes, sorry. Did Father really recover from his illness just now? I was simply amazed that you could cure it so easily."
I see. Maybe they're surprised because this is their first time seeing it? But nothing seems different about Richard-sama on the outside.
"But Richard-sama looks no different, so I can see why it's hard to tell..."
"Yes, but your mana was giving off a very sacred light."
Sacred light? Wasn't it just ordinary light?
Well, whatever. I decided not to worry about it. They seemed moved, so no harm done.
When other people heal injuries, their mana barely gives off any light. I can do that because I have a ridiculous amount of mana.
"Then, shall we do Christophe-sama next?"
"Yes, please."
"Then, if you'll excuse me."
After that, I examined Christophe-sama, Sophia-sama, Lucien-sama, and Albert-sama in that order, but none of them had anything wrong.
"Everyone is healthy, so you're all fine. If you start feeling unwell, please be sure to tell me."
"Thank you, Leon. That's very reassuring."
"I feel relieved too. Thank you."
"I'm glad you're pleased."
After that, we made small talk for a while, then we were shown to our guest rooms.
Once I've rested in my guest room for a while, it'll be time for dinner. I wonder if they'll serve seafood. I'm looking forward to it!
