A Fleeting Secret

Five days after returning to Mikala Territory, I was staying at Calus's mansion instead of the burned-out manor of the Mikala family.

Calus, the former master of the house, had already been killed in the Demon Lord's Army's attack. His surviving relative, Sonea-san, was now staying there with her younger sister, Sonnet.

In the room assigned to me, I wrote letters and finished my paperwork. Once I was done, I stood up, left the room, and walked down the mansion's corridor.

I stopped in front of another room and lightly knocked on the closed door.

"Come in."

A voice from inside gave me permission to enter. I went in and saw a bed in the room, with Mia-san sitting upright on it in a white nightgown.

"How are you feeling, Mia-san?"

"Lady Romelia? I'm sorry I didn't get up to welcome you."

Mia-san tried to get out of bed and stand, but I stopped her with a hand.

"That's all right. Please stay where you are. You're injured."...
