Mysterious pneumonia was spreading rapidly across California. It seemed to be a completely new disease, and there was no clear treatment yet.
It had been about a week since the authorities and hospitals first noticed something was wrong.
They estimated there were at least several dozen suspected cases, centered around Sacramento……
I headed to the special pneumonia ward.
The ward had been hastily set up, and its name was rather ominous. James was standing in front of the new vinyl door installed in the ward.
“Oh, you’re here.”
James let out a sigh of relief, as though I’d come to get rid of the infectious disease for him.
I looked at the temporary vinyl door.
“You’ve already set up a whole new ward?”
“It’s pneumonia that’s hard to treat with antibiotics. The infectious disease professors suggested designating a new droplet-isolation area for now.”...
