Why do Americans like turning off the lights?
This was an upscale restaurant Lieselotte had chosen. The lighting was so dim you could barely read the menu.
What was the point of squinting and struggling to read a menu in the dark?
Once again, Lieselotte didn't bother looking at the menu. She simply asked the staff to bring her whatever they recommended.

The hospital's fluorescent lights were painfully bright and white. Here, the warm orange glow was so dim I had to squint just to make out the words on the menu.
I looked at Lieselotte.
