Chen Ju paused when he heard Jiang Zhou’s voice. He stopped what he was doing, climbed down from the stool, dusted off his clothes, picked up the stool, and bowed slightly. “All right.”
Only then did Jiang Zhou realize the man was Chen Ju. His expression darkened, and he strode over to him. He took the rag from Chen Ju’s hand, tossed it into the bucket, and snapped, “Who told you to do this? You were standing on that high stool—were you trying to fall?”
Jiang Zhou’s sudden raised voice startled Chen Ju. He glanced timidly at the rag in the bucket and murmured, “I won’t fall. The stool is really, really sturdy.”
“This has nothing to do with the stool. You’re so clumsy—if I hadn’t come by just now, you might’ve fallen. And the cleaning staff can take care of this. You don’t need to worry about it,” Jiang Zhou scolded.
The word “clumsy” pierced Chen Ju’s heart. His eyes began to sting, and he pressed his lips together.
