Although I was attacked immediately after landing and took down my attacker, I was in a situation where I could not let my guard down at all. Another robot was approaching from behind the robot I had destroyed.
That robot appeared to be a balanced type using bipedal legs. It used parts with average performance in every category, equipped light machine guns on both arms, small missile pods on both shoulders, and additional boosters on its back. It was fair to call it a balanced type that combined decent mobility with decent firepower.
The instant it saw me, the robot began firing both machine guns and launched a salvo of missiles. It seemed furious that I had stolen its prey.
"I do feel a little bad about that, but with a penalty game on the line, I can't afford to lose either!"
I drove backward at full speed on the tires in my legs while firing the rifle on my right arm and the chaingun on my right shoulder. It seemed to have locked onto me, but I had locked onto it too. I wasn't going to simply let it shoot me down.
However, my enemy was no pushover. It moved in a zigzag pattern to evade my bullets while continuing to fire its machine guns and missiles. I blocked them with my shield, but I could not stop everything. Bullets that slipped past my shield and the blasts from the small missiles damaged my robot.
"Whoa!? The blasts shake me this much...? But it doesn't hurt! Not at all! Bwahahaha!"
However, I had designed my robot with defense as the top priority. Although the low-powered machine guns and small missile blasts shook the cockpit, the damage I took was negligible. Moreover, my shield blocked more than half of it. There was absolutely no need to panic.
Since it could not completely evade my rifle and chaingun, my enemy had apparently taken a fair amount of damage. It had not been shot down because it was a balanced type, but precisely because it was a balanced type, it could not evade everything. Being unable to specialize in either absolute defense or perfect evasion was the fate of a balanced type.
Perhaps the unexpectedly fierce counterattack had restored its composure, because the robot activated the boosters on its back and began to flee. Its tire-equipped legs could move surprisingly fast on the ground, but they could not match the mobility of a balanced type. At this rate, it would get away...
