The Wedding of the Two

On the second Saturday of February, at a wedding hall in the suburbs.

Sunlight streamed through the forest, casting patterns as it cut between the trees.

New green shoots were budding, filling the scenery with a fresh, verdant beauty. The chirping of birds that had returned to greet spring sounded like a song.

A breeze gently brushed their ears. White chairs had been arranged across the green lawn.

Vita and Carlisle had agreed to hold their wedding at a small church near the woods. A public institution helped subsidize wedding expenses, so the cost was low, and there were other reasons too.

Vita had suggested it first.

-You know, Carlisle. I’d just like our wedding to be small.

-I don’t want to worry about other people’s eyes, and having a big wedding would be a burden.
