When you think of summer...

I think the answer to that question varies quite a bit from person to person.

Some people might say places like the beach or a river; others might say foods like watermelon or ice cream.

There are plenty of things to love about this season, but of all of them, my favorite is the summer festival.

I had no parents and knew nothing about festivals, but one time I was taken to one that happened to be going on nearby.

Though it should have been dark, the food stalls and lanterns lit up the whole area.

Everyone was smiling, seemingly swept up in the festive atmosphere.

I remember how excited it made me, even as a kid.

After that, despite being a guy, I occasionally even got a yukata and went to festivals with a few people I was close to back then.
