Funny Show at the Circus (13)

“Ah. This is what they call the fine civilization of Kitai: ‘arson.’”

─Roar! I smiled contentedly as I watched the Cream Sauce Circus’s tents go up in flames.

The flames quickly grew stronger in the dry autumn air.

The fire was headed straight for the tent where the circus show was taking place! I guided the flames in that direction and watched the troupe’s reaction.

“F-fire!!”

“Damn it! I heard they’d earned the lord’s praise, so I was looking forward to it. What the hell kind of disaster is this?!”

The guests still inside fled for the exit as soon as the fire broke out. Why would anyone stay when black smoke was billowing up and stinging their eyes? The scene unfolded exactly as I’d hoped, and I grinned.

‘They can’t keep the barrier up while the guests are evacuating and the guards are trying to put out the fire.’

It was fucking obvious.

They’d put a barrier around the entire circus grounds. What choice did they have but to take it down so the guests and guards could get in and out...
