Vacation (1)
A full month had swiftly passed since the theft of the original manuscript. I had focused on my studies as much as possible during that time, but I couldn't help worrying about it.
Volume 1 of The Chronicle of Xenon was the first record I had left behind after being reincarnated in this world, and I was deeply attached to it. Since I had written it by hand rather than on a computer, I felt proud whenever I looked at the manuscript.
But when such an absurd incident occurred, I was more dumbfounded than angry. Honestly, I had never imagined that it would be stolen within a day of its first public unveiling, nor had I expected someone to tear the entire entrance off the safe.
Of course, the publishing house was partly responsible for handling things so carelessly without hiring adventurers, and I was also partly at fault for handing over the manuscript so easily. Even so, it was still unfair.
A month had passed since then, and I devoted myself to my studies while wondering at least once a day whose hands the manuscript had fallen into. If someone had it, that would at least be fortunate. I only hoped they hadn't burned or destroyed it.
"I'm sorry. We investigated as hard as we could, but... we didn't find anything."
"Nothing at all?
"Yeah. Other than the fact that the culprit was skilled at handling mana and physically strong, we have no idea who stole it. This is all the investigation by the Empire's finest mage turned up."
