I'd heard it was the capital of North Korea, but the atmosphere brought the word desolate to mind.
Especially from the sky, there was a truly enormous Gate where some sort of government building might once have stood, and the surrounding buildings and landscape had long since become ruins.
Even the bridge connecting the two banks of the river had collapsed.

"...Was the Gate black?"

The super-large Gate in Pyongyang was enormous, but something about it must have changed. Unlike the others, its entrance had turned black, and it was giving off an ominous aura.
