The winter of 1033 was short.
January 31, 1033. Normally, this would have been the height of winter's cold, but the thaw had left the weather pleasantly cool—a reasonably good day for a march.
Thanks to this, the Center's commanders were able to begin the war with confidence.
As soon as the Center declared war, a total of 400,000 troops—200,000 from the forward fortresses plus 200,000 reinforcements—began advancing across the eastern border.
Of course, not all of them could carry guns.
Because productivity had fallen due to the communist revolution, fewer than half of them were capable of carrying firearms.
Supply units, rear-support units, and the like had to arm themselves with spears and swords instead.
Even so, it did not matter.
"A full 400,000. In the face of an attack by an army this large, their defensive lines will crumble like sandcastles."
At the very front of the Imperial Army advancing with such thoughts was the First Corps...
