#74. Uninvited Guest

Asilla Vanel walked toward the city gates along the dark road.

It had been 50 years since she had been recognized for her abilities at a relatively young age and become the leader of the Third Scout Squad of the Capital Defense Force.

The area assigned to Asilla's scout squad was Sector 14, and its main duties were monitoring travelers passing through the sector, investigating unusual phenomena in the forest, and determining the population of magical beasts.

Asilla was busy making various preparations for the upcoming mission, but even so, the rumor she had heard during the day left her thoughts in turmoil.

It was said that humans from outside the Great Forest thought the rangers in the scout squads were murderous fanatics who tried to kill any human they saw.

A little thought would have revealed that this was a misunderstanding, but she could not deny that the circumstances made such rumors inevitable.

Peledia was currently facing a massive war.

It was only natural that the international situation, thrown into upheaval by the declaration of war from the Northern Empire, a great power that dominated the continent, would have a negative impact on domestic affairs, and that the public mood, which had never been good to begin with, would grow turbulent.

As a result, the guidelines within the Capital Defense Force had inevitably become harsher as well.
