Before writing England Saga.
Among the candidates for novels Kim Yul had originally wanted to write were Columbus and Magellan.
This stemmed from his upbringing.
As a child, he had been captivated by the fun of sailing and adventure while playing Koei's Uncharted Waters both as a single-player game and online.
Of course, those memories had been trampled beneath the superior-performance ships and items obtainable only from random gacha boxes.
However, Ferdinand Magellan was eliminated because his circumnavigation was a grueling process filled with adversity, and he ultimately died without completing it.
Christopher Columbus was eliminated because, although his achievements had been romanticized to some extent, he had committed every kind of atrocity, including massacres, abuse, and rape of indigenous people.
Of course, one might question Kim Yul's foresight when he ultimately chose a vicious pirate after filtering out those candidates.
But contrary to expectations, Sir Drake had not gone around doing nothing but trashy things; he had also enjoyed some entertaining exploits capable of satisfying one's pirate fantasies.
