In the Thick of Battle

I pushed the question of who the voice belonged to—Mr. Richthofen—to the back of my mind for the moment.

The attacks from above had diminished. In any case, we had to clear out the enemies on the ground and move on to treating the people.

“Young demon!”

A second kaijin slammed into the one I was facing from the side, and they both shattered.

I looked toward where the monster had come from and saw Rosso-san crushing another kaijin’s head in her hand.

“You focus on treating them! We’ll clear the way here!”

“R-right!”

My hesitation lasted only an instant. I leaped backward, putting some distance between myself and the group of enemies on the ground.

Rosso-san darted in as I retreated, materialized her scythe, and swung it through the kaijin. Her horizontal slash swept away ten of them at once...
