Chapter 22

Chapter 22 - Divorce Ceremony (4)

When I encounter a magic beast this time, let's defeat it without using the Spirit Sword's power.

As I set out to find magic beasts, I was in a surprisingly good mood. Wasn't it natural to be excited when one had a chance to use something one didn't have before?

I wonder how strong the contracted spirit is?

Beepbee, the darkness spirit I newly contracted. I planned to properly experiment with it this time. Beepbee, an intermediate darkness spirit. Although the Spirit Sword said its rank was much lower than itself... I was currently in a contract with Beepbee.

It said that in a contracted state, one could draw out all of the spirit's power, so I might have become much stronger than before? I thought so, but without anything suitable to experiment on, I couldn't help but think this opportunity to subjugate magic beasts was a really good thing.

So I set out excitedly to find magic beasts, but... I encountered a rather troublesome situation.

"...What should I do about this?"

It wasn't that I couldn't find magic beasts. I had already guessed where they might be, and there would surely be magic beasts if I went there. So why was I hesitating even though I knew where the magic beasts were?

It was because the place where the magic beasts were wasn't in our family's territory, but in another family's territory. And it was the territory of Kailyn's family, the Dwenbells.

"Should I enter this?"

Entering this place was quite hesitating. To enter the territory of my childhood friend who I'm about to divorce... Moreover, I didn't want to get involved with Kailyn's family if possible.

What should I do about this? Why did the magic beasts have to be in the territory ruled by Kailyn's family... Although I was a bit worried, I made a decision.

"There's no choice. I have to go in for now."

I had no choice. I couldn't tell my sister I couldn't defeat the magic beasts after confidently saying I would, right? It wasn’t like I would meet people from Kailyn's family just by entering anyway.

I thought I could just quickly defeat the magic beasts and leave.

So I moved to subjugate the magic beasts, and...

"Huh?"

"Haa..."

Unfortunately, I ended up meeting someone from Kailyn's family. Not long after I entered Kailyn's family's territory, I discovered a girl who looked exactly like Kailyn, but smaller and younger-looking. I obviously knew who this girl was.

Kailyn's younger sister, Trisha.

"...Why is my brother-in-law here?"

Trisha also looked somewhat surprised to see me. Of course, she probably didn't expect me to be in the territory her family rules.

"What are you doing in a place like this? Isn't this trespassing?" she spoke cautiously as soon as she saw me.

Trisha must know that Kailyn and I are getting divorced. So it was natural for her to question why a man who was about to divorce is in her family's territory.

Something I absolutely didn't want to happen had undoubtedly occurred. But still, I had to somehow manage the situation, right?

"It's not trespassing, is it?"

"What?"

For now, to be clear, the current situation wasn't trespassing. I proudly told the truth to Trisha, who was trying to make me out to be a criminal. Trisha reacted with bewilderment to my words, but I hadn't said anything wrong.

"What are you saying when the divorce ceremony is today?"

"We're not divorced until the divorce ceremony is held today, right?"

"What kind of sophistry is that..."

For now, Kailyn and I were still married. In that sense, I explained that I had merely entered the territory of my in-laws' family. Of course, Trisha said it was sophistry, and I didn't disagree.

"...Haa."

Anyway, it seemed it wasn’t a crime now.

"I won't say much. I don't know why you came, but please leave."

Trisha told me. She said to leave quickly. She looked at me with eyes full of hatred while sighing.

"I don't like you."

Actually, Trisha didn’t like me very much. To begin with, hardly anyone liked me except my younger sister. Trisha was one of the top 3 people who disliked me the most.

"Because you're the person who took away my sister's dream."

The reason she disliked me was obviously because of Kailyn. Kailyn was a once-in-a-generation genius of the Dwenbell family. She showed remarkable talent from a young age.

And Trisha was the one who admired such a sister, believing that Kailyn would definitely achieve her dream of becoming an archmage. But because Kailyn married me, she had to give up that dream. That was why she couldn't help but dislike me.

"I never thought someone like you was suitable for my sister in the first place. Our family doesn't need someone like you."

Moreover, I was quite an ordinary man. The Dwenbell family was also on the verge of ruin. If I had at least some ability, the Dwenbell family might have liked me, but that wasn't the case, which was why they couldn't like me.

I fully understand her feelings.

"...Let's not talk about it."

But I didn't think that was right. I sighed as I looked at Trisha, who was very angry at me. Trisha probably didn’t know that my marriage to Kailyn ultimately saved Kailyn and the people of the Dwenbell family.

Kailyn not becoming a mage is for her own good.

It was obvious. In the original story, Kailyn caused all sorts of trouble trying to become an archmage. And in the end, she got executed.

It was my marriage to her that prevented such a future. Although it wasn't intentional and the result wasn't good, my action surely saved Kailyn. And of course, that was also for the good of the Dwenbell family.

Not doing that was for the family's benefit.

If Kailyn had caused such trouble, would the Dwenbell family be okay? Of course, they absolutely wouldn't be okay. To begin with, the Dwenbell family was also quite shady and no one viewed them favorably.

Because of that, due to Kailyn's incident, they would be charged with treason. Most of the men would be executed and the women would become slaves. In the original story, Trisha was also one of the people who became a slave.

Of course, I had tried to prevent that when I married Kailyn.

I tried to prevent that for a while... but she wouldn't know that.

Although I didn't want it, I couldn't just watch my wife and my in-laws' family be destroyed. But now it didn’t seem to matter much. There was no need to take care of them now that we were getting divorced.

Maybe things would flow as in the original story?

"Why are you sighing?"

"It's nothing. I’m just here on a short errand and then I’ll leave, so don't worry about it."

Anyway, it wasn't my business. Trisha still looked at me with an annoyed expression, but I didn't particularly care.

And I started to go my own way.

"Where are you going? I told you to leave the territory right now?"

Then, she followed me and started questioning me again.

Geez. How annoying.

I had no choice but to explain the situation to her.

"Trisha. I'm going to subjugate magic beasts now."

"Magic beasts?"

"Yes. Our territory is suffering damage because of the magic beasts here. So I came to subjugate them. I'll leave right after I subjugate them, so just wait a bit."

I wasn’t here because I wanted to be. I said I would leave immediately after subjugating the magic beasts. Come to think of it, subjugating magic beasts in the Dwenbell territory wasn't bad for the Dwenbell family, either.

I explained it to Trisha in a way she could understand, but she snorted at my words.

"You're going to subjugate magic beasts?"

"Yes."

"You're making quite creative nonsense."

Her reaction was natural. She must think there was no way I could subjugate magic beasts. She probably thought I was just an extremely ordinary person too.

"You'll see whether it's nonsense or not if you check."

Like my sister, it was time for an update in her thinking. I moved again to find magic beasts, and Trisha followed me again.

"Wait."

"Are you worried?"

"No, I'm not. At least die after the divorce ceremony!"

Such language. It would be my loss to get angry at something like that. I ignored her and headed towards where the magic beasts were.

Finally, I could discover a magic beast.

"Ah... a magic beast...!"

A body larger than expected. A boar-like magic beast sleeping could be seen. Trisha looked quite surprised.

It was natural. A greenhouse flower like Trisha probably never saw a magic beast directly. Seeing the magic beast, Trisha's whole body trembled instinctively.

"Run away even now... That's not something we can handle. At least if it was my sister..."

Trisha, with a face full of fear, told me to run away. It was probably stubbornness, but I thought it was amazing that she followed this far. But if she was going to run away, why did she come this far?

I ignored her appropriately and called Beepbee.

"Beepbee. Devour it."

"Beep beep beep!!!"

Beepbee reacted to my words. Beepbee immediately created a huge sphere.

"Oink...!?"

And covered the boar-like magic beast. Before the boar-like magic beast, waking from sleep, could react in surprise, Beepbee enveloped it completely. The boar-like magic beast seemed to thrash about inside Beepbee for a moment, but it didn't last long.

It quickly became quiet, and soon Beepbee returned to its original form.

"Good job."

"Beep~~~"

As expected, Beepbee is quite strong, isn't it?

As I was praising Beepbee for its performance...

"What... what is this? What just happened?" Trisha asked me with a face that couldn't believe what she had just seen.
