Chapter 23

Chapter 23 - Divorce Ceremony (5)

The magic beast disappeared without a trace. The subjugation of the magic beast took less than 10 seconds. It was completely annihilated from this world by Beepbee.

As expected, Beepbee is strong, isn't it?

Beepbee had quite strong abilities, as expected.

I thought it would be something like this. It was a spirit that the magic tower mages desperately searched for. Of course, when contracting with such a spirit, one would naturally gain considerable power.

I expected this level of power, but...

To erase a magic beast without a trace...

Still, seeing it in person was not entirely unsurprising. After all, the opponent was a magic beast. There was a tendency to underestimate magic beasts as just ordinary early-stage enemies, but magic beasts were absolutely not to be taken lightly.

Most humans absolutely couldn’t handle them alone.

Even the genius protagonist experienced many crises because of magic beasts. It wasn't just once or twice that she nearly died because she couldn't properly catch one of these. Being able to catch magic beasts like this might mean I was at a superhuman level in some ways.

Moreover, I also possessed the Spirit Sword now.

Hmm... if I do well with this...

How strong was I now? It was just a guess, but if I could catch magic beasts this easily, maybe I could handle a low-ranking executive of the Demon King's army alone?

I had such thoughts, but I shook my head and dismissed them.

No. What am I thinking?

What did I just think I could handle alone?

Those were things that the hero, not me, should resolve. I had such thoughts for a moment, intoxicated by strength, but...

I thought I didn't need to do such things or even think about them.

Should I go back now?

Anyway, I succeeded in subjugating the magic beast. And I also succeeded in testing Beepbee's power, though not all of it. I had no more business here.

So I was about to leave, but...

"Answer me. How do you have such abilities?"

Why is she being so annoying...

Trisha keeps demanding an explanation about this. How I came to have power.

Well... I can understand why.

While it was annoying, I could understand Trisha's feelings. I, who was ordinary and thought to be inadequate as her sister's husband, had returned with such unbelievable abilities. From her perspective, this situation must be unbelievable.

It was natural for her to have questions. But that didn’t mean I was going to kindly explain.

"I have nothing to tell you."

"What do you mean…?"

"It's true, isn't it? Can you give me even one reason why I should tell you?"

Trisha and I didn’t have a good relationship. She disliked me, and I didn’t particularly like Trisha who disliked me. We maintained a sister-in-law and brother-in-law relationship because of Kailyn, but even that would disappear once we had the divorce ceremony, right?

There was really no reason for me to tell her. I told her to tell me if there was any other reason I didn't know about.

"...There's... no reason..."

Of course, there was no such reason, so Trisha couldn't say anything. She seemed to think for a moment, but she must know that there was no reason for me to tell her.

"Then I'll be going."

There was no need to stay here any longer. Again, I didn't want to get involved with Kailyn's family members if possible. Moreover, now that I had this unusual power, I might be tempting from their perspective.

Especially, I don't want to get involved with Trisha.

In this situation, Trisha was one of the most cautious figures. If Kailyn was obsessed with her dream, Trisha was a woman obsessed with the family's glory. She was the kind of person who would even sell her soul to revive the family.

In some ways, she might be similar to Kailyn.

No, is it natural for sisters to be similar?

Anyway, no one has met her standards and succeeded.

I absolutely didn't want to get involved with her if possible. It would be best to leave quickly. As I was turning around to go home...

"W-wait. Brother-in-law. If you have that power..."

I heard Trisha calling me from behind. And she seemed to be saying something, but I couldn't really hear it, and I didn't want to listen.

"See you at the divorce ceremony."

I ignored her and went on my way.

***

Although there was an incident of meeting Trisha in the middle, I successfully accomplished my original goal of subjugating the magic beast. I returned home and informed my sister Amelia that I had subjugated the magic beast.

"...Did you really subjugate it?"

But Amelia showed a reaction of not believing me at all. As expected, she couldn't believe that I had subjugated a magic beast alone.

"I really did subjugate it."

I thought maybe I should have brought evidence... But I couldn't. Usually, I would have brought proof of subjugation, but Beepbee had swallowed everything without leaving a trace.

If I had known this would happen, I should have told it to leave some remains. I thought I could use this opportunity to show my sister that I was strong. As I was feeling regretful that I couldn't do that...

"I see. You subjugated it."

"You believe me?"

"You have no reason to lie to me about this. If you say so, I can't not believe you."

What's this?

My sister believed me. Amelia calmly affirmed my words, but...

She believes so easily?

I was somewhat doubtful. Amelia did trust me, but I didn’t think she would believe such an incredible thing as subjugating a magic beast so simply.

If I persuaded her at length, she would really believe me, but today, for some reason, her speed of acceptance was abnormally fast, which was quite strange.

Why on earth s she reacting like this?

I couldn't help but wonder about the reason, and I finally learned why.

"Do you really believe it?"

"I can see that you've changed, so why wouldn't I believe it?" Amelia said she had to believe because I had changed.

"I've changed?"

But I didn't really understand, so I had to ask again. The only thing that had changed was that my body had gained a lot of muscle. Of course, having muscles might make me look more dependable, but that wasn’t what Amelia meant.

What on earth had changed about me?

The answer Amelia gave to this question was somewhat abstract.

"Yes. Your eyes have changed a lot."

"...?"

"It's hard to explain. To be honest, it's just a feeling for me too."

What on earth is she saying?

I still showed a puzzled expression, but there was no answer to this conversation.

"Shall we stop talking about this?"

"Yeah, let's do that."

Neither I nor Amelia felt the need to continue this conversation. So we moved on from this topic.

"Brother, quickly eat and take a bath. I've prepared warm water."

Amelia told me to rest quickly.

"The divorce ceremony is tomorrow. You must be tired, so you should rest well before going."

Well, there was a divorce ceremony tomorrow, right? I didn’t think it was a terribly big deal, but as she said, it could be quite tiring. It makes sense to rest well.

"Okay. I understand. Thanks for preparing."

I told Amelia I understood, then went straight to rest. That was how I spent the night, and finally, the day of the divorce ceremony arrived.

***

The divorce ceremony wasn't very grand. Kailyn's family wasn't that wealthy, and there weren't many families close to Kailyn's family now.

As expected, most of them are people from Kailyn's family.

Most of the people there were from the Dwenbell family, and even they were few. The venue looked quite large and seemed to have had a lot of effort put into it, but it felt completely lacking in substance.

Amelia and I came to such a venue. We didn't feel welcomed, but we weren't rejected either. We just exchanged greetings appropriately.

Well, I thought it was natural. We couldn’t be close when we were about to divorce. I felt the same way, as I didn't want to be close to them either.

I should just have the divorce ceremony and leave.

To think we're finally having the divorce ceremony...

It was almost time for the divorce ceremony to start. After this point, I'd be completely separated from Kailyn. We'd be strangers, and we probably wouldn't see each other's faces even once in the future?

That might be really good in its own way.

There's Kailyn.

Shouldn't I at least say goodbye since it's the last time?

With that thought, I headed towards Kailyn, who was talking with Trisha, and I happened to overhear a bit of their conversation.

"Sister. Brother-in-law... no, Davian... seems to have more ability than we thought?"

What are they talking about?
