“Next, please.”
While I was fuming over hearing that a gag Job like 【Muscle Warrior】 was popular in this world and resolving to spread the truth about 〈Dan-Katsu〉, it seemed our turn had come.
Come to think of it, we were waiting in line for our Job assessments.
“All right, Hannah, go on. And come back as an 【Alchemist】.”
“Mm, okay. Got it. If it's there, I'll become one. An 【Alchemist】!”
“I'm telling you, it's definitely there. Don't worry.”
I sent Hannah off with a smile.
Hannah stood in front of the Dragon Statue and, following the teacher's instructions, timidly reached out and placed a hand on its head.
And then...
“Wow! 【Alchemist】 really is on the list! I can't believe it. I heard it depends a lot on talent!”
Hannah checked the list displayed above the Dragon Statue, then turned around and told me with a huge smile.
“See? I told you. Pick 【Alchemist】 right away. Don't put it off in case an even better Job comes along.”
Your Job choice determines the rest of your life.
That's why people in this world are careful when choosing a Job.
Jobs manifest when various conditions are met, including one's social status at birth, as well as one's usual habits, actions, thoughts, beliefs, and knowledge.
You have a whole month, so the general idea is to put off choosing a Job until the last possible moment in hopes of getting a better one.
But that would interfere with what we need to do from here on out, so I wanted Hannah to decide right away.
Besides, the only alchemy Job above that is probably 【Dark Alchemist】. It's specialized in evil things, so we don't need that right now.
“M-mm, okay. Then I'll do it.”
Hannah must have selected 【Alchemist】.
The list of choices disappeared, and the word 【Alchemist】 zoomed in.
Hannah was now an 【Alchemist】.
“Congratulations on awakening to your Job. I offer you my heartfelt congratulations. Good luck from here on out.”
“Th-thank you!”
Hannah cheerfully bowed her head to the female teacher who had helped her.
Incidentally, “Job awakening” means acquiring a Job for the first time. It's a phrase people use on occasions worth celebrating.
I think of it as kind of like celebratory red-bean rice.
Hannah was officially an adult starting today.
I watched Hannah leave the line, face flushed with excitement. Now it was finally my turn.
“I hope you find a good Job.”
“Haha, leave it to me. I'm going to land the best Job there is.”
I confidently declared that to Sierra, who was standing behind me, then stepped up to the Dragon Statue.
Meanwhile, I heard cheers from another line. It seemed someone had gotten 【Muscle Warrior】.
Don't make such a fuss over some gag Job.

The female teacher who'd been assisting me couldn't help exclaiming when she saw the list that appeared.
I grinned at her reaction.
The long, long journey to the academy had left me with plenty of time on my hands, so I'd fulfilled the conditions for a ton of Jobs.
She'd probably never seen such an extensive lineup of Jobs before.
The female staff member was visibly shaken.
It was a satisfying reaction to watch.
“What is it, Miss Reactone?”
The one who quickly noticed what was happening and came over was an elderly gentleman with a Santa-like beard that was impossible not to notice. He was the principal, one of the top officials at this academy.
“P-Principal, this is—ah—”
The female staff member had pointed at the displayed Job list, then realized her mistake.
Some students don't want to make their Jobs public.
If I were royalty or a noble, this could have turned into a troublesome situation.
It was entirely her own carelessness.
But it was fine.
I was a villager, and I actually wanted people to see my Job list.
The principal looked to me—the owner of the Job list that had been pointed out—as if asking permission, so I gestured for him to go ahead.
Then...
“What! This is...”
The principal's eyes widened in astonishment, too.
The teachers and students around us noticed and began turning their attention our way, wondering what was going on.
“Hey, how many are there?!”
“No way. There are even high-tier Jobs!”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Some of these I've never even heard of!”
“Who is that guy?”
“Look, he's got 【Grand Swordmaster】! They say even a commoner who gets that is guaranteed a high-ranking position!”
“And that's not all—【Archmage】 and 【Bishop】, too!”
“What on earth is going on?!”
A stir swept through the entire gymnasium.
That's right. Look all you want.
Tremble before this Job list.

There are countless Jobs you won't even see, let alone learn about, after just one or two playthroughs.
Even with this many Jobs listed, this is still only a small fraction of the whole.
So set your sights high. Don't get distracted by 【Muscle Warrior】 or anything.
〈Dan-Katsu〉 has tons of Jobs stronger than 【Muscle Warrior】, you know?
