The Mopping-Up Operation

In a room at Yurba Fort, Velli-sensei and I discussed matters in front of a map.

"The Sixth Company advanced two kilometers before engaging and annihilating the remnants of the Demon Army. I've received word that it was relieved by the Fourth and withdrew to the rear. The Fourth advanced after taking over, covering about five kilometers, but apparently it hasn't encountered any sign of the Demon Army yet."

Velli-sensei read aloud the reports coming in from the front.

I moved pieces across the map and marked the locations whose safety had been confirmed.

Ten days had passed since we began hunting down the remnants of the Demon Army, and we had now confirmed the safety of more than half of the northern region.

"Things are progressing smoothly. The soldiers are having a hard time, but let's press our advantage and finish this in one push."

I was pleased with how smoothly things were proceeding.

At this rate, we would be able to clear out the remnants of the Demon Army in fewer than ten days.

"Understood, but let's revise the formation a little. The Seventh Company has suffered heavy losses. We should merge it with the newly formed Ninth. Also, the First and Second have advanced too far. We should pull them back a little."

Velli-sensei compared the map with the documents and made detailed adjustments to the troop deployments...
