A New Industry

"An industry?"

In response to my proposal, Baron Kennet and Baron Dostra answered with puzzled looks.

"Yes. I—or rather, House Graham—will provide the funding. Would you be interested in starting a business?"

When I proposed it again, neither man seemed any more receptive.

"To be honest, I never imagined you would bring up something like this. I assumed you wanted to discuss strengthening our military or securing provisions."

Baron Dostra seemed confused because this was so different from what he had expected.

"Of course, those are also among the things I want to discuss. But the war against the Demon Army will continue for a long time. That is why I want the two of you to support us for years to come."

The two men frowned at my words.

Naturally. What I had just said amounted to asking them to keep giving me money until the war was over.

"That said, I am not asking northern Roberk to overextend itself. I want you to develop an industry and bring prosperity to the north. In return, I want you to support the alliance."...
