"What a fine collection."

I didn't get straight to the point, instead looking around at the various furnishings in the room.

On the shelves were large glass jars. Inside them, preserved specimens of dead animals floated in amber-colored liquid.

The small animals in the jars, such as mice and lizards, had their abdomens cut open and their organs exposed, leaving their hearts, lungs, stomachs, and small intestines clearly visible.

"I'm flattered by the compliment, but surely they must be unpleasant to a lady?"

He had secretly hoped I would find them creepy and flee home, yet he had the nerve to say that.

"Not at all. I find them fascinating. But there are no human specimens. Don't you have any?"

Priest Noute's eyebrow twitched at my question.

"Surely not. We couldn't possibly have such a thing. The Salvation Church forbids human dissection as evil."

It was true that the Church forbade human dissection. But this was strange...
