Intermediate Mage Hugo Galletti and a Cool Mage

Bradford Firestone, one of the Seven Sages known as the Cannonball Mage, has one disciple.

His name is Hugo Galletti. A twenty-two-year-old Intermediate Mage from the maritime nation of Alpatra, he’s a medium-built young man of average height with curly brown hair tied back.

Bradford had ordered him to track the movements of “a certain person,” and he’d been doing so until just recently. Now that the investigation had reached a stopping point, he’d boarded a public carriage back to the royal capital.

The carriage had benches facing each other, so Hugo took a seat at the very back, on the end.

If possible, he’d have liked to sit with his legs crossed in a cool pose, but the carriage jolted so much that doing so was dangerous. He’d actually fallen off the seat once that way, so Hugo sat normally.

There was still a little time before the carriage set off. As Hugo fiddled with the lock of hair that stuck out from his tied-back hair, he thought back over the investigation his master had assigned him.

(I thought the investigation might be difficult, but it went pretty smoothly.)

The “certain person” Hugo had been ordered to investigate was named Theodore Maxwell.

His master hadn’t told him what the man had done. It was a matter of national security.

Still, the surname Maxwell sounded familiar...
