Recently, it had become customary for Monica to eat lunch with Lana, Casey, and Claudia.
Today, as the four of them ate together, snippets of conversation about the school festival could be heard all around them.

Apparently, Lana had been selected to handle the costumes for the play—the festival's main attraction—and had engaged in a heated debate with a student from the history club over them.
The debate had continued for several days, with the history club president insisting that the costumes should be based strictly on tradition while Lana argued for glamorous designs incorporating the latest fashions. In the end, the two of them had apparently shaken hands with faces like comrades-in-arms.
"U-um, what kind of play are you going to, um, perform?"
