Once he had permission, Chen Ju carried the things inside and pattered over to the desk. With an ingratiating smile, he held out the coffee and sandwich and said softly, “Jiang Zhou, I bought these for you.”

Jiang Zhou glanced at the coffee and sandwich, then looked at Chen Ju. The scratches on the man’s face were still red and swollen.

“Put them on the desk and come here.” Jiang Zhou held out a hand.

“Oh, okay.” Chen Ju carefully set the coffee and sandwich on the desk, then went over to Jiang Zhou. He secretly studied Jiang Zhou’s expression, trying to figure out whether he was still angry.

A sudden sting flared on his face. Jiang Zhou poked the scraped spot with a finger, and Chen Ju’s face immediately scrunched up in pain. He wanted to shrink back, but was afraid of upsetting Jiang Zhou, so he could only ask pitifully, “W-what is it?”

“Does it still hurt?” Jiang Zhou pulled Chen Ju close, held him against his chest, and pinned him between his knees.

Hearing the gentleness in Jiang Zhou’s voice, Chen Ju’s taut nerves relaxed a little. His eyes grew hot, and he nodded honestly. “A-a little.”

“If it hurts, why didn’t you put medicine on it?” Jiang Zhou narrowed his eyes and gave Chen Ju’s earlobe a punitive pinch.
